Crowns and bridges
are two services we provide that are known as restorative dentistry. They can restore a tooth’s appearance and/or treat dental decay, all at the same time. If you have experienced tooth loss or simply desire a tooth that is improved in appearance, both options can help you achieve a brighter smile.
Crowns may not be diamond-encrusted, but they do cap or cover a tooth. They are often applied in our office to a tooth that is highly decayed and in need of a root canal. This treatment method means you can save your tooth and reduce decay all at the same time. In addition to protecting a weak tooth, crowns can also cover a dental implant, mask a tooth that is very misshapen or broken or to secure a dental bridge.
Each crown is custom-made using a mold we take at our Overland Park dental office. This means your new tooth will blend well with your surrounding teeth and is a long-lasting option for maintaining a beautiful smile.
Crowns are an important component of a dental bridge. These bridges replace a missing tooth by anchoring an artificial tooth on either side with crowns. Bridges are an ideal way to replace a missing tooth because they prevent your dental alignment from shifting.
To create a bridge, Dr. Deutch must remove dental enamel on your surrounding teeth to make room for the crowns. She can then take a mold of your teeth to send to a dental laboratory that will custom-make your bridge. While the bridge is being created, she can place temporary crowns over your teeth.
When you return to her Overland Park dental office, Dr. Deutch will cement the bridge into place. The result is a seamless, even smile. While the bridge may take some initial time to become used to, it ultimately will feel like a natural part of your teeth -- you may even forget you have a missing tooth in the first place.
