InvisalignWhile almost everyone wants a beautiful, straight smile, not everyone wants to submit to wear metal braces. Another option is a treatment called Invisalign. It’s a revolutionary orthodontic method that has grown sharply in popularity since it was first developed in 1997. Dr. Michelle Deutch helps patients get that straighter smile they desire with Invisalign at her dentist office in Overland Park, KS.

Invisalign Works
A Harris survey found that 78 percent of American adults say that having their teeth straightened was one of the best things they did for their smiles. Eligible patients who choose Invisalign for their orthodontic needs do so because this treatment provides the same results as wearing metal braces, and often in much less time. The system uses a series of plastic trays instead of having brackets cemented to the teeth. It’s an ideal solution for patients who have relatively minor issues, like crowding, small gaps, and overbites.

How the Trays Work
The mold of an Invisalign aligning tray is similar to but slightly different from the current contours of your teeth. The more you wear the tray, the more your teeth move to fit its shape. After wearing a series of these trays during the treatment period, your teeth will eventually settle into the new position mapped out by your Overland Park dentist. It’s very important to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day if you want the treatment to work for you.

Benefits of this Method
The primary benefit of Invisalign is that you’ll get straighter teeth without having to wear an unattractive appliance for years. The aligning trays are clear and very lightweight so people usually don’t notice them right away. You also have the option of removing the trays, which is convenient when eating, brushing your teeth, or having an intimate conversation with another person.

Invisalign and Your Smile
Your dentist must evaluate the extent of your orthodontic problems to ensure that Invisalign is the right treatment for you. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Deutch at her Overland Park, KS, today by calling (913) 469-0085.

What you need to know about Invisalign orthodontic treatment

Do you want a straight, beautiful smile but you don’t like the look of metal brackets and wires? Are you afraid of how long orthodontic treatment invisaligntakes to get the look you want? Well, now you can have straight teeth in a minimum amount of time, and no one will even notice you are straightening your teeth. Welcome to the state-of-the-art, virtually invisible orthodontic treatment; it’s called Invisalign! Learn more about this innovative procedure from your dentist.

It’s true! Invisalign appliances, called aligners, are clear plastic and virtually unnoticeable to the people around you. But that’s not the only advantage to Invisalign when compared to traditional braces. According to the makers of Invisalign, when you choose Invisalign you can depend on an unsurpassed level of:

  • Comfort, because Invisalign has no sharp, metal parts to irritate soft tissue.

  • Convenience, because you can remove the aligners when you eat and to clean them.

  • Confidence, because Invisalign is cosmetically attractive and virtually unnoticeable.

  • Satisfaction, because you can eat the foods you love without worrying about food catching in your braces.

  • Oral health, because you can brush and floss normally without using cumbersome floss threaders and other tools

Your Invisalign treatment begins with the creation of your first set of aligners, which are clear plastic trays to fit over your teeth. You will wear the first set for two weeks and then change to another set, which you wear for another two weeks. Every two weeks you receive a new set of aligners, as your teeth gradually move into position. The entire Invisalign treatment only takes nine to fifteen months, compared to years for conventional orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign corrects the same issues as conventional braces, including teeth that are poorly aligned, rotated, overlapped, or spaced widely apart. Invisalign treatment can also correct major bite problems like crossbite, open bite, underbite, and overbite.

Invisalign aligners from your Overland Park, KS dentist Dr. Michelle Deutch may more comfortable, convenient, and natural looking than traditional metal braces, but you know you don’t want to wear them any longer than you have to. Thankfully, you don't have to.

How Long Does the Process Take?

On average, Overland Park adults who visit Dr. Deutch can generally expect to wear their Invisalign aligners for one year. This amount Invisaligncan vary significantly, however, depending on the age of the wearer and the amount of correction that needs to take place. If you only have a few teeth that need to be adjusted and your case is very simple, you may only need to wear your aligners for as little as four to six months. However, if your teeth require a lot of corrections, you may need to wear your aligners for as long as eighteen months.

How Do They to Traditional Metal Braces?

Invisalign offers several serious advantages over traditional metal braces. Not only is Invisalign practically invisible and removable, but the length of time it takes to work may be reduced as well. While Invisalign typically takes one year or 18 months at most, traditional metal braces can take as long as one to two years to complete the process.

However, this reduced time frame doesn't necessarily mean that Invisalign works better than traditional metal braces. Invisalign is typically not recommended for the most severe cases, so the shortened time frame may just be because the cases are typically simpler.

What Factors Determine How Long Invisalign Will Take?

While one year is average, the actual amount of time that your Invisalign treatment will take depends on a number of factors. The most important factor is the amount of correction that needs to take place. If you have several teeth that are badly out of alignment, your treatment will almost certainly take longer than if you only had a few teeth that were slightly crooked.

Also, the dedication with which you wear your aligners can have a huge impact as well. Your Overland Park dentist, Dr. Deutch, will likely advise you to wear your aligners between 18 and 22 hours a day. Forget or neglect to wear your aligners, and not only will your teeth not make additional progress, but they could even begin to shift back into their original positions, making the process take even longer.

Only your Overland Park, KS dentist can let you know exactly how long Invisalign will take. If you would like to know more about the process or if you would like to set up an appointment to begin treatment, call Dr. Michelle Deutch today.
